The new BSB Version 7.0 is one of the biggest updates to the Business Services training package in years, and it is releasing on training.gov.au this October*. This comes after PwC’s Skills for Australia’s Case for Endorsement document was endorsed at the Australian Industry Skills Committee meeting.
About 4 in 5 RTOs have at least 1 BSB training component on scope, so we could say that almost all Registered Training Organisations will be affected by the change.

Summary of the NEW 2020 BSB 7.0 Training Package
To summarise some of the major changes from the BSB v6.0/v6.1 to the BSB v7.0:
- There are 33 updated qualifications
- Seven qualifications will be deleted
- A total of 20 brand new units will be created
- 283 Units will be created
- Many popular qualifications will be “Not Equivalent” and RTOs will need to reapply for scope of registration.
- A major consolidation of qualifications, reducing the overall number of qualifications in the training package from 66 to 33.

What Does the 2020 BSB Version 7.0 Update Mean for My RTO?
The changes mean your RTO will need to reapply for scope ASAP. Your RTO must act swiftly to accommodate the massive changes in the new BSB 7.0 training package. Acting ASAP means that you will be able to service the massive student demand for the new qualifications.
The BSB 7.0 Update can also be an opportunity to be the first to market and deliver the new courses to the massive number of students who will want to train for the new qualifications. Complying with the changes then means more opportunities for your RTO to train students.
What Should My RTO Do?
You will have to get training materials developed for the NEW unit standards – just changing the course code on the materials won’t work! apply or re-apply for scope to get new (and “Not Equivalent”) qualifications on your RTO’s roster of courses.
Typical options to get resources would be to purchase RTO materials from an RTO resource publisher or developer OR to develop the New BSB 7.0 RTO materials in-house.
